In outdoor photography, lighting is the most important element. There are several kinds of lighting mistakes, such as too much or too little light, that can prevent you from capturing that perfect shot. Whenever possible, place your subjects so that the sun is behind them. A photo taken at sunset or in a shaded area can also work. You will get the best lighting in these areas.

People usually just look right into the camera. Get your subject to look at something to the right or left of the camera for a unique picture. Or, you could have your subject focus their gaze on something or someone else in the frame.

When people or animals in pictures have red eye, it basically makes the entire photo unattractive. You can keep those red eyes out of your pictures by not using the flash unless absolutely necessary. If you do have to use it, make sure the people in the photos don’t look directly at the lens. There are also certain cameras which have a feature for red eyes.

The quality of cellphone cameras has come a long way from the comically low-resolution ones that first appeared on phones, but you need to be very careful about lighting it you want to take great photos with your phone. The majority of cellular phone cameras don’t contain built-in flashes. As a result, you must make sure your subject is properly positioned in order to maximize the available sources of light. Zooming in on your subject can also be helpful to avoid sunspots or shadows.

Are you planning on doing some photography of objects that were left out in the rain? You can create that type of effect yourself by lightly misting the thing that you are going to photograph.

If you are still new to photography and if you have chosen an SLR camera, it is important that you learn the basics. If you want to promote your photography from snapshots to art form, then you need to learn about aperture, composition, exposure, ISO, lighting and shutter speed.

When photographing people, keep the camera at their eye level. This approach will seem more personal and cause your viewers to gravitate to the subject. You should get down to the level of a child when you are taking a photograph of them.

Be creative with shutter speeds. If you are trying to get a good picture you would normally use the fastest shutter speed, but try the slowest for a different effect. Have a look at fast subjects such as cyclists, birds and cars. The result will be that the cyclist is sharp and clear, while the background is horizontally streaked, creating a speeding effect.
